Dutch hotel schools and KHN collaborate in the wake of the corona crisis.

"In a joint effort to lift the industry up, the Dutch association of hospitality business Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN) and the hotel schools in the Netherlands are combining forces."

The hospitality sector in the Netherlands is re-opening its doors and ready to welcome guests again. The relief can be felt but unfortunately, the crisis has had a huge impact on the hospitality industry, and it is definitely not ‘business as usual’. Many entrepreneurs are now facing a situation where they have to run their business while making a loss. In a sector where socialising is key and, the new rules and regulations of the 1.5 metre distance society appear to have significant consequences. Social distancing and stricter hygiene regulations are far from helping entrepreneurs to be profitable again.

Joint effort

In a joint effort to lift the industry up, the Dutch association of hospitality business Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN) and the hotel schools in the Netherlands are combining forces. Knowledge transfer between the hotel schools and the business community is crucial in creating a future-proof industry. Hospitality businesses can now request the help of one of the hotel schools in the Netherlands for specific issues. The schools are offering students and entrepreneurs the opportunity to work alongside each other in the context of a (graduation) assignment. As well as this, there are plenty of opportunities for collaboration as part of an internship.

The next generation of hospitality professionals

KHN chairman Robèr Willemsen: “Many students are now looking for an internship or apprenticeship and hospitality entrepreneurs may need some extra creativity, help and advice to be able to take great steps within their company in the coming period. As soon as the sector picks up again, we naturally want the next generation of hospitality professionals to be ready and trained.”

Students conduct research

Hotel Management School Maastricht is actively engaging in opportunities for students to collaborate on topics such as concept development to improve the hospitality experience (during corona times), refurbishment advice in the context of the 1.5 metre distance society, or the implementation of a new method for work processes optimisation. Students can conduct research for companies on any of these topics, either working on location or remotely.

Students are looking for internships

Many of Hotel Management School Maastricht students are now looking for an internship from September. As an entrepreneur, you may be able to use some extra creativity, advice and hands-on deck to tackle the coming weeks and months. The duration of the collaborations ranges from 10 to 30 weeks. Interested parties must meet certain conditions and requirements.
