Christmas season
When you have finally adjusted to the cold weather, it is time to go out and explore the magical city of Maastricht in the winter! From the beginning of November, the lights will be all over the city already. On the 29th of November, the Christmas season really gets started. Magical Maastricht is taking place on the Vrijthof from Friday the 29th of November until the 31st of December 2019.
Christmas market
Eating Christmas snacks, buying presents for your friends and family and just a fun night out, the Christmas market is the place to be. The Christmas market on the Vrijthof will once again be a major attraction, offering the public a wide range of Christmas articles gifts. The market will be spread out more extensively over the beautiful Vrijthof square this year and will be adorned with even more beautiful Christmas décor than ever before. Therefore, it is also the best place to make ugly Christmas pictures to send to your family and friends at home.
Ice skating
Regarding to Katie Couric, an American journalist, skating is an essential mode of transportation in the Netherlands during the winter. Therefore, you should have skated in the Netherlands. Since there is a 900m2 covered ice rink, it does not even matter if it is raining or snowing. In case you first need to get some courage, you can have a mulled wine or a hot chocolate with some rum at one of the bars.
Ferris Wheel
Besides skating, you need to see the city of Maastricht from above. Since we are not all that sporty and want to climb the tower of the Sint Servaas Church, there is a fantastic opportunity to have a look while sitting comfortably in a 50-meter high ferris wheel. Make sure none of your friends are afraid of heights; this could cause some problems!
Golden tips
• In case you would like to have some drinks, enjoy a ride in the Ferris wheel and try the ice
skating, you should have a look at the package deals.
• Make sure you wear gloves and a hat for protection while skating
• Do not overeat at home; there are a lot of nice food trucks at the Christmas market
