International Internship

All Master IHM students embark on an international adventure in the third block of the program, the four month business placement. Your professional placement can be anywhere in the world (visa permitting) and depending on your competencies and personal wishes we will find this placement for you.

The final part of the program seeks to improve the student's work experience in international companies that are part of the networking network of both the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Sant Ignasi and the Hotel Management School Maastricht. The internships, which can be carried out in hotels, consultancies or tourism and innovation companies, have a minimum duration of 18 weeks. However, there are companies that offer longer-term internships, which may be accepted once the student finishes the programme.

This hands-on experience provides students with an insight into the current challenges facing companies in the industry, enabling students to provide creative and innovative solutions.

The objectives of the internships are:

  • Increase business skills by allowing the student to apply theoretical knowledge in a realistic environment.
  • Familiarize the student with the functions of an international hospitality company.
  • Develop and enhance the sense of responsibility, communicative skills, flexibility and teamwork.

During the internship, the student must develop an innovative project on a business management topic: from feasibility studies, identify possible bottlenecks, make recommendations to improve an existing situation, or implement evaluation processes. The practical element is highly valued.

Below you see some examples of professional placement positions.
