Let's catch up with alumna Nicole Traa | 04 september 2017

How did you end up in your current job?
It has been already some time ago, that I studied at the Hotel Management School Maastricht. I received my Funda in 2008 when I was already living in Portugal, so I flew up and down to receive my diploma. I loved hospitality and worked for the Marriott Brand in different Brands and countries; The United States, Portugal, France and the United Kingdom. After all this travelling, I started working in Amsterdam for the Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam and Sofitel Legend the Grand Amsterdam. I enjoyed working Front of House in different management positions, but I had always a dream to have my own company. When assisting a professional golfer with his Goodbye party from the European Golf Tour, I was approached to work for two other visitors from this party. This was my chance to start my own Personal Assistant company. I quit my job and found myself behind the computer on the first day thinking what am I suppose to do next? Now, 3,5 years later I have grown as a person, and my company has grown with me. PersonalAssistant.nl assists CEO's, companies but also the local entrepeneur who can use a few hours of assistance. It is great to meet so many people and companies. All the skills that I am using now, where founded at the Hotel Management School Maastricht. I am still very grateful that I was able to enjoy this education.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
Currently, PersonalAssistant.nl is fast growing. I hope within five years to be a well known brand and partner within the industry. We have big dreams and a sollid business plan that we carry out step by step. It is important that you love what you do. As an entrepreneur you always need to be one step ahead. We have some lovely plans for the future, like for example creating a PersonalAssistant.nl Academy.

Do you have tips for the current hotello?
The Hotel Management School Maastricht is a great base for all different kinds of jobs. Find your own talent, and use the human skills that you get taught. This will be a benefit for the rest of your work and private life. The Hotel network is something you should not underestimate. You will find out that you can use this also years later. I still get in contact with people that I did not speak to in years, but have followed me on for example LinkedIn. And get frequent requests from other hotello's for Personal Assistants. It is a very strong network!

Anything else you would like to share?
I am still extremely happy that I was able to join the Hotel Management School Maastricht. It gave me friends for life and great skills for a working career.
