How did you end up in your current job?

After the Hotel Management School Maastricht I started a Master of Science in Management at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. From my perspective, Nyenrode was the perfect follow-up study after Maastricht. This proved to be true as I experienced Nyenrode as the Hotel Management School 2.0. In the last months of the master I was looking for the next step in my career. Because I didn’t exactly know which direction I was aiming for, I tried to find a traineeship. I narrowed it down to a few companies in which I could combine my background as a Hotello and a Nyenrodian. After a though selection process I managed to get accepted as a Management Trainee at KLM. The traineeship consists of four projects at different departments over a period of two years. My first project is aimed at improving the customer (or guest?) experience during delays or cancellations; something in which I can use my hotel background pretty well.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

After I finish the traineeship successfully I will receive a management position within KLM. I would like to gather some experience in the direction that suits me best by then. Afterward, I would like to be send abroad to one of the KLM outer-stations to work as an expat.

Do you have a tip for the current Hotello?

Of course! Try to gather as much experience abroad as you can, it will definitely help you develop yourself and it is a huge advantage when you are looking for a job. You should also try to grab every opportunity you can get; as a member of a fraternity (Upper Ten), PC of multiple events and member of various committees I learned a lot of things that you cannot be learn in a classroom

Anything else you would like to share?

Work hard but don’t forget to play hard as well. Life is not only about making money or having a career; often, it are the little things that create happiness.
