Her Majesty Queen Máxima will attend the opening of the 75th anniversary celebrations of Hotel Management School Maastricht (HMSM) on Thursday, 2 October. With the theme Roots and Wings, the event will highlight both the rich history of the school and the future of the hospitality industry, with HMSM playing a pioneering role.

Since 1950, HMSM has been educating ambitious students for international careers in hotel and foodservice management. Over the decades, the school has grown into a globally recognised educational and knowledge institution, with an alumni network of nearly 10,000 hospitality professionals, including general managers of international hotels, hospitality entrepreneurs, and innovative food service start-ups.
Looking ahead to 2035, HMSM aims to be the leading pioneer in responsible hospitality. Innovation and responsibility go hand in hand. The curriculum, which combines theory and practice, provides space for pioneering through an inspiring learning environment. Students, lecturers, and researchers from the Future of Food and Global Minds @ Work research centres collaborate with industry partners to develop innovative concepts and practices. These address current societal challenges such as food transition, inclusivity, and equal opportunities, contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.
During the opening, Queen Máxima will be introduced to the roots and historical foundation of the school, as well as its ambitions for the coming years. She will then join a guided tour on campus, engaging with students, lecturers, and researchers. In the Food Experience Lab, she will witness live demonstrations showcasing the synergy between technology and gastronomy. She will also experience how students are being prepared for an inclusive and international job market, with tools such as Virtual Reality. Additionally, she will learn about the Foundation HMSM, which provides financial support to current and future students to promote equal opportunities.
