Foundation HMSM
The Foundation HMSM focuses currently on building a good financial basis that will allow us to make our education program accessible to young talent from all over the world. The foundation can only do this with the support of alumni, employees and anyone who feels connected to our institute.
From 28 – 31 March about 300 third and fourth year students walked 20 km in the region around Vaals. These students missed their international internship due to the pandemic and with it the opportunity to dive into different environments and cultures. For the students it was also a sponsor hike and together they raised no less than € 3.000,- for the Foundation HMSM. An emergency fund will be formed to support the Ukrainian and Russian students of HMSM who are in financial need now and in the near future. It is the epitome of hospitality and global mindedness to help your peer students.
Our first-year student Jean Maroun Bou Malhab (19) – nickname Bubbles – was facing difficult circumstances in the summer of 2020; after the propaedeutic year his financial reserves had been depleted due to the situation in his home country Lebanon. The Foundation HMSM offered a solution by starting a fundraising campaign for him successfully: in September Jean Maroun started his second year. The amount of € 25.000,- needed to complete his four-year study programme, was raised by approximately 150 alumni, employees and other members of the hotel school community. A great result!

This applies all the more to alumni who work at the Hotel Management School Maastricht. At the start of the Foundation, they wanted to show their support by creating a landmark for the foundation on campus. Thanks to their financial contribution, a bench has been placed in the newly landscaped park in between the Student Residence and the school building. A place in the centre of the campus where young talent can develop.
The amount of study costs is for some students an insurmountable barrier, especially for those from a less prosperous country. Being able to study and develop your talents is a wonderful opportunity. An opportunity which many of us have had, but which is not available to everyone, or not available to the same extent.
Accessibility of our education is important and we want to increase this with scholarships. In order to be able to promise other students in need that they can complete their studies and focus on their future, we need a more sustainable fund.
