I am an internship supervisor for HMSM’s second year students who are doing their operational internship at the front desk of The Hay Adams in Washington DC.
I always want to help other people grow within their career and help them find out what they’re passionate about. As an operational internship supervisor, you really help find this passion with the student.
As Assistant Front Office Manager, I am involved in the daily management at the front desk at The Hay Adams. I ended up in DC actually because I was doing my operational internship for the Hay Adams back in 2019. I’ve learned so much during that time plus I liked the American culture and DC so much that I’ve decided to come back and give my professional career a boost
To be honest with you, I still consider myself part of the ‘younger’ generation since I graduated in February ‘22 However, it is always nice to see how the next generation of HMSM students evolve over time.
Sometimes it’s better to go outside your comfort zone, take every opportunity you get offered. On top of that, Your HMSM network is very valuable and you should try to maintain this for the rest of your life.
I can relate to how they are feeling since I was in the same position at the same hotel 4 years ago. This way, I know how to help them during hard times but also how to engage them with the American culture. When they leave after six months, they leave with a lot of gained confidence and experience which will be an asset in their future education and career as a young professional!
In the hotel the same procedures were in place for years and students bring new insights what is very helpful for the optimization of the operation.
