Research and Education Day 2025
On March 27th, the annual Research and Education Day of the research centre Global Minds at Work took place at the Hotel Management School Maastricht.
About 75 attendees, ranging from researchers, lecturers and administrators joined the event. Keynote speakers Dr. Kennedy Tielman (Professor of Practice at Summa College) and Dr. GL Hernandez (Assistant Professor at Amsterdam UAS) emphasized the need to professionalise teachers in dealing with ‘hot moments in the classroom.’ Situations where value - based tensions lead to anxiety or feelings of unease for both teachers and students. The afternoon programme consisted of a range of workshops on educational activities that address (cultural) diversity and social sustainability in the classroom. For instance, a workshop on food and culture, and one on Deep Democracy in the classroom. The event offered a symposium as well, where researchers from all of the Netherlands, including our own Tom Kuypers and Albert Mhangami, presented their state of the art studies. Countering the Zeitgeist, the event radiated messages of optimism, hope and a ‘roll up our sleeves’ mentality.
It was also the ten year anniversary of the Global Mind Monitor, developed by the research centre Global Minds @ Work. This milestone was celebrated during the event.
