The Extra Mile Fund

At HMSM, we know that real leadership is developed beyond the classroom. The Extra Mile Fund enables students to create and participate in extra-curricular group activities that challenge, inspire, and connect.

Many activities that contribute to personal growth and leadership development come with costs, costs students cannot (all) afford. Students can apply for a guarantee grant to organize activities that build essential life and leadership skills.

Student stands in front of the smart board in the classroom and gives presentation to his fellow students at the hotel school maastricht.

These activities can for example be:

  • Workshops focusing on mental health (e.g., stress management, mindfulness)
  • (Sustainable) hospitality competition or academic challenges
  • Volunteer work of a group of students for (local) charity
  • Network events with the industry
  • Pitch training or business model workshop with focus on innovation and entrepreneurship

The activities must be:

  • extra-curricular (not part of course credits)
  • align with HMSM values such as professionalism, courage, and connection
  • presented with a balanced financing plan with at least one additional funding source
  • focused on funding essential costs (e.g., venue, speakers, not food & drinks)

The more students can be reached through the activity, the greater the support. This ensures broad impact and efficient use of funds.
Your donation creates opportunities for all students to grow academically, socially, personally and to make new connections and expand their network.

Amy Keulen

Fourth-year student Amy Keulen participated in the Excellence Programme in 2024 and later served as an External Coordinator for two editions

‘Joining this programme was one of the best decisions of my student life. This experience didn’t just boost my organizational skills; it also gave me confidence. Extra-curricular activities like this depend heavily on funding. Without a proper budget, we can’t host inspiring guest speakers or organize a professional final pitch event.’
