Explore the essentials
Study programme
During the four-year study programme, we combine theory with practice and invest a great deal in your personal development and guidance.
We offer small-scale education and you will work intensively in project groups. You will organize events, run shifts in our Teaching Hotel (which is a real hotel!) or solve realistic business cases.
You will have two internships. In your second year you will do an operational internship abroad in an international 5 star hotel. In the last year you will do a management internship in the Netherlands or abroad.
In year three you will specialize your studies by choosing one of the following tracks:
• Business of Hotels
• Foodservice
• Horizons in Hospitality
In addition to this, there are many options during your studies in which you can develop and distinguish yourself. We offer extra-curricular activities such as the Excellence Programme or the Student Council, you will follow minors courses of your choice or you can go on exchange to one of our partner universities!
We offer an English and Dutch track, which is identical in content. In the English track you will be in an international classroom with both Dutch students and international students.
Living on campus
During your first year you'll live on campus in the Student Residence.
You live together with others, which helps you to develop skills which are good to have if you want to be successful in the hospitality industry.
On campus, you live together with 13-15 students and share a living room and kitchen. You have your own student room which comes with a bed, desk and wardrobe and a private bathroom! The Student Residence building is centrally located on campus and less than a 3 minute walk to the education building and Teaching Hotel.
Study costs & scholarships
A full overview of the study costs can be found on our website. In addition to the annual tuition fees, there are other costs as well. For example the one-time purchase of a Tenue de Ville (school uniform), kitchen uniform, knife set, the rent of your campus room in the first year and of course study books.
If you are the first in your family to go to a higher education, the First Generation Scholarship of Foundation HMSM can support you. This scholarship is for students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education and helps ease the financial burden of the intensive first year at HMSM. It covers part of the tuition fee and essential expenses like a knife set and Tenue de Ville (school uniform). Read more about the scholarship.
As an international non-EU student you can also apply for a scholarship via Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. There are two different versions of the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship, which both offer a discount on your tuition fee. There are also scholarships or other ways of funding available through the Dutch government. Read more on the website of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.
