The IHAB award is a prize for the one graduate that impressed the most during the final assessment. In this oral exam, students reflect on the development that they have gone through during their years at the hotel school. They present themselves as ‘young professionals’ and show that they are ready for their ‘next step in hospitality’. Apart from everlasting fame, the winner receives an amount of 1,000 Euros (sponsored by Bidfood). Furthermore he or she may accompany an IHAB member for one day during his or her duties.

"When I started my academic career at Hotel Management School Maastricht, I came in empty-handed. Now, four years later, I am walking out of the same doors with my Funda in my hands and, on top of that, the IHAB-award. I am very grateful for obtaining this award, as it provides me with the right bunch of positive energy that I deem important for whatever the future still has to offer!"
'Whereas happily surprised at winning the IHAB award, I am extremely grateful to all the amazing people at the HMSM who have helped me to pave my own path to success. This award is a beacon of light that will hopefully guide me and many others to greatness!'
‘It was a wonderful surprise for me that I was nominated and WON the IHAB-award! The feeling of winning something like this couldn’t make me more proud, I am super grateful! Winning this award proved that me and my honesty are appreciated. For me it’s such a special honor, it gives me so much recognition, confidence, appreciation and a huge kick to start my career as a young professional! From the sponsored amount by Bidfood, I wish to buy a pasta machine, to pursue my passion.'
‘Being ‘CEO for a day’, with IHAB member Walter Seib of HMSHost International, did not mean a standard day in the office. Walter took me along with him when he went to Manchester to visit two concepts: Leon and Comptoir Libanais. We also visited Manchester Airport's Terminal 3, which is run by HMSHost International. I was lucky enough to meet inspiring people and learned a great deal about how the company runs its business. The day also led to the opportunity for me to go to an interview (after my trip across South America) to discuss what the company and I might be able to do for each other. All in all, it was a fantastic experience that presented a great opportunity for the future.’
‘Winning the IHAB award provided me with huge amounts of strength and confidence – confidence in myself and in my dreams, enabling me to set out on new adventures, full of enthusiasm and passion. It felt like a confirmation: the fact that my vision for the future affected others, and that they believe that I can actually make that vision a reality, means a great deal to me.’
‘I was very happy and surprised! The other nominees were also good candidates, it was almost unreal to receive an award in front of the 600 guests present. Making the final presentation has given me a lot of positive energy, because I could put all my creativity and emotions in it. It gives a huge kick when you feel that that your message and emotions come across in the final presentation.’
‘Winning the award was something I hoped I would manage to do, yet it still came as a surprise. First learning that I was the only person graduating ‘cum laude’ during the graduation ceremony was a big reward for my hard work and dedication. The winning of the award in addition to that was amazing. This award confirmed my biggest personal success: knowing who I am and bringing this across to other people.’
