What is your role at the Hotel Management School Maastricht?

I am an internship supervisor for HMSM’s second year students who are doing their operational internship at the front desk of The Hay Adams in Washington DC.

Why does this role suit you?

I always want to help other people grow within their career and help them find out what they’re passionate about. As an operational internship supervisor, you really help find this passion with the student.

What do you do in daily life? And how did you end up in Washington DC?

As Assistant Front Office Manager, I am involved in the daily management at the front desk at The Hay Adams. I ended up in DC actually because I was doing my operational internship for the Hay Adams back in 2019. I’ve learned so much during that time plus I liked the American culture and DC so much that I’ve decided to come back and give my professional career a boost

How do you experience the younger generation?

To be honest with you, I still consider myself part of the ‘younger’ generation since I graduated in February ‘22 However, it is always nice to see how the next generation of HMSM students evolve over time.

What would you like to give back to students from your own experience?

Sometimes it’s better to go outside your comfort zone, take every opportunity you get offered. On top of that, Your HMSM network is very valuable and you should try to maintain this for the rest of your life.

What do you like about working with students?

I can relate to how they are feeling since I was in the same position at the same hotel 4 years ago. This way, I know how to help them during hard times but also how to engage them with the American culture. When they leave after six months, they leave with a lot of gained confidence and experience which will be an asset in their future education and career as a young professional!

What do you remember about the contact with students?

In the hotel the same procedures were in place for years and students bring new insights what is very helpful for the optimization of the operation.
